(A) Exosmosis is the process where water moves out of the cell when it is placed in a hypertonic solution.In a hypertonic solution,the concentration of the external solution is higher than the concentration of the cell sap (cytoplasm/vacuole).Due to the osmotic gradient,water molecules move from a region of higher water potential (inside the cell) to a region of lower water potential (outside the cell) through a semi-permeable membrane.Therefore,exosmosis occurs when the concentration of the external solution is higher than that of the cell sap,or conversely,when the concentration of the cell sap is lower than the surrounding solution.
