(D) The $Hydra$ belongs to the phylum $Cnidaria$. It possesses a primitive nervous system consisting of a network of neurons (nerve net) spread throughout its body. However,it lacks a centralized nervous system or a brain to process information. In contrast, sponges $(Porifera)$ lack neurons entirely, while earthworms and cockroaches possess a centralized nervous system with a brain or cerebral ganglia.
