Hemichordata

Vedclass · Answer

(C) The phylum $Chordata$ is characterized by the presence of a notochord,a dorsal hollow nerve cord, and paired pharyngeal gill slits. $Chordata$ is divided into three subphyla: $Urochordata$ (or $Tunicata$),$Cephalochordata$,and $Vertebrata$. $Hemichordata$ was previously considered a subphylum of $Chordata$ but is now classified as a separate phylum because the structure previously thought to be a notochord (the stomochord) is not homologous to the true notochord of chordates. Therefore,$Hemichordata$ is not included in the phylum $Chordata$.
