Vedclass · Answer

(C) Digestion is defined as the process of converting complex food substances into simple absorbable forms. This process is primarily achieved through hydrolysis, which involves the enzymatic breakdown of complex macromolecules (like carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) into their monomeric units (like glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids) by the addition of water molecules. Therefore, while 'breakdown' is a general term,'hydrolysis' is the specific biochemical mechanism that defines the process of digestion.
