Vedclass · Answer

(A) Callose is a polysaccharide that accumulates in the sieve pores of sieve tubes. During the winter season or when the sieve tubes become old,the sieve pores get plugged with callose, which is a carbohydrate polymer. This process is known as the formation of callose plugs. These plugs reduce or stop the transport of food materials through the phloem. Therefore, callose plugs are primarily formed in old sieve tubes.

In which of the sieve tubes are the callose plugs formed?
