(D) The present concept of evolution is a modified form of Darwin's theory of natural selection, often referred to as $Neo-Darwinism$.According to this theory, only genetic variations (mutations) are inherited, unlike the broader view of variations held by Darwin. Thus, the modern concept of evolution is a synthesis of Darwin's theory of natural selection and Hugo de Vries's mutation theory, along with contributions from population genetics. This is also widely known as the $Synthetic$ $theory$ $of$ $evolution$ or $Modern$ $Synthetic$ $theory$.
