Vedclass · Answer

(B) The correct answer is $B$. Evisceration (or autotomy) is a defensive mechanism observed in many species of sea cucumbers (class $Holothuroidea$,phylum $Echinodermata$). When irritated or subjected to unfavorable environmental conditions, these organisms expel a portion of their internal organs (viscera) through the anus or mouth via strong muscular contractions. This process serves as a distraction or defense against predators. The lost internal organs are subsequently regenerated by the organism.
