(N/A) Absolute pressure is the total pressure at a point in a fluid, which includes the atmospheric pressure acting on the surface of the fluid. It is given by the sum of gauge pressure and atmospheric pressure: $P_{abs} = P_g + P_{atm}$.
Gauge pressure is the pressure measured relative to the atmospheric pressure. It is the difference between the absolute pressure and the atmospheric pressure: $P_g = P_{abs} - P_{atm}$.
In many practical applications, gauge pressure is the value read by pressure gauges,as they are calibrated to read zero at atmospheric pressure.

Consider a vessel filled with a liquid up to height $H$. The bottom of the vessel lies in the $X-Y$ plane passing through the origin. The density of the liquid varies with the $Z$-axis as $\rho(z) = \rho_0 \left[ 2 - \left( \frac{z}{H} \right)^2 \right]$. If $P_1$ and $P_2$ are the pressures at the bottom surface and top surface of the liquid respectively, the magnitude of $(P_1 - P_2)$ is:

The volume of an air bubble is doubled as it rises from the bottom of a lake to its surface. The atmospheric pressure is $75 \, cm$ of mercury. The ratio of the density of mercury to that of lake water is $\frac{40}{3}$. The depth of the lake in metres is:

$A$ liquid $X$ of density $3.36 \, g/cm^3$ is poured into a $U$-tube containing $Hg$ up to a height of $10 \, cm$. Another liquid $Y$ is poured into the left arm to a height of $8 \, cm$. The upper levels of $X$ and $Y$ are at the same height. Find the density of liquid $Y$ in $g/cm^3$. (Density of $Hg = 13.6 \times 10^3 \, kg/m^3$)
