Since the resistance of copper wires is negligible,very little heat is produced,and they do not glow.Conversely,the heating element is made of an alloy like nichrome,which has a very high electrical resistance. Due to this high resistance,a large amount of heat is generated when current flows through it,causing it to glow red-hot.
